Karate on Wednesdays is in Cherry Hinton, and it doesn't make a huge amount of sense to go back home (at the opposite end of Cambridge) and then back out again after work. LNR and I have got into the habit of having dinner in town on Wednesday evenings, but often, efficient service leaves me with quite a bit of time to kill before Karate starts.

Usually I fill this with reading (lately either further Gibbon or Nial Ferguson's Empire) but for the last couple of weeks I've filled it with cycling instead. Last week on arriving too early I turned round and cycled out of Cambridge a bit, then back in over a hill (with a good view over Cambridge, though I didn't have my camera).

Yesterday I went for a longer route - out through the southwest of Cambridge, through Great Shelford, and back via Stapleford, past Magog Down, along Wort's Causeway and turning back up towards the dojo just short of Addenbrooke's. Since this was exiguously planned I spent quite a bit of the time not fully sure where I was - for quite a while it was deduction rather than knowledge that Cambridge was the other side of the hill I was ascending - but in the end I got back with time to spare, and I could probably have taken in at least Little Shelford if I'd wanted to. On the other hand I did get a bit of a rest before Karate this way.

I'm wondering about heading out eastwards next time...

It confused me, since I read it in the sense of 'minutely' rather than 'barely', then had to backtrack when I got further into the sentence.
