I've just checked through all our CVS and website to make sure we didn't thoughtlessly include your email address in anything, and can't find it anywhere. Plenty of references to you (by your initials) in checkin comments, but I'd have thought it would take a fair amount of determined perversity to track those references to their source and think the result made a better person to mail than the "please mail this address" address on our actual web site :-)

Do what I do when idiots mail me bug reports for random programs who have linked to my bug reporting essay: ask the random why they think you're a sensible person to mail. With luck you'll embarrass them to the point where they take more care in future...

I usually ignore unreasonable or idiotic help requests by email these days. Perhaps it's time I wrote a boilerplate message.

I do get more sensible help requests, often connected with the "I had this obscure problem and here's how I solved it" pages I've put up. I don't mind helping people with those things...

(Before anyone takes this as an invitation to email me all their random geek questions: choosing a relevant public forum will often lead to a higher quality of response.)
