Bike woes

I'm not having much luck at the moment. On Monday I spent most of the evening failing to patch a tyre (eventually giving up and using the backup inner tube). This lunchtime I returned from wandering around town to find that someone had D-locked my bike to the stand as well as their own; it was still in that state this evening.

I've left a note with my phone number. I've no idea what locking my bike to theirs would achieve, though.

Assuming an honest, decent other party, they'd call you (and be as inconvenienced as you were).

Insurance is the best idea. If they don't get their bike back without effort, they're more likely to make the effort :)

Revenge? Or depending which of you needs it more urgently, you could charge a un unclamping fee.

Revenge is very much secondary to getting my bike back. If I annoy them, it might take longer.

if you don't lock your bike to theirs, and they're a lazy git, they might not bother calling when they unlock their bike and free yours, I guess. if theirs is trapped too they pretty much have to?

Don't compound the problem by locking your bike to theirs! This was almost certainly a mistake, and a very easy one to make (I've done this, to my shame). When they come back they'll free their bike and yours. If you try to take revenge you run the risk of prompting them to take revenge on you in your turn, and so it escalates. What's the point? While the war goes on neither of you have a bicycle.

If you can't wait, hire an angle grinder.
