Yes, it really did look like that. No, I don't remember what it is.

These are tiny. (I was having real trouble with lighting hence the limited DOF.)

This wasn't deliberately blurred: I wandered into a hothouse and then wondered why everything looked foggy through the camera even though it was perfectly clear through my eyes. Then I looked at the front of my camera, and rapidly retreated...

[livejournal.com profile] naath was very patient while [livejournal.com profile] edith_the_hutt and I photographed all sorts of interesting and attractive things. (Edith's pictures via here.)

Bird of paradise plant. They have one of these at the front of Charlie Chan, too,

All the rest.

That's a nice shot of the bird of paradise; I have a shot from the front of one somewhere, taken in the municipal gardens in Ilfracombe. Unfortunately it was in too awkward a location to get a shot from the side...

Have you done any processing on that, or fiddled with the exposure settings or suchlike? Just wondering, since the colour is rather striking; it might just be emitted vs. reflected light (LCD vs. print) but the contrast between orange (?) and blue (?) is a lot more obvious than I've ever managed on film.

I fiddled with the black level a bit but that's all (http://www.greenend.org.uk/rjk/junk/paradise.png). It's also slightly cropped from the original.

OOoooo look! Sundew. I used to grow one of them: my longest-surviving houseplant.

Two years, then some bastard nicked it. I like sundew.

Very. No flies, wasps, mosquitoes etc. in the kitchen at all if there's a sundew on the windowsill.

Insects don't lioke the smell.

The top picture looks like pachyphytum hookeri.

Yay sundews!

The unidentified green thing is some sort of succulent; if you broke a leaf open it'd be all gelatinous inside, like aloes are. Did you find it in the rockery beds by any chance?

Can't remember for sure. I think it might've been in the alpine room.
