You can get someone most (?all) of the way to Lord Gard on the first day if you can remember how to use the liths right... I think I usually sent Corleth that route. And Lord Shadow is just off in the forest north-east-ish with some horses waiting for him just outside the forest. But watch out for the enemy army lurking in the mountains of Ashimar.
