Oh that last one is lovely. How much is kit like that then? (And will it screw on to a Powershot A85...?)

Jessops will sell you the 100mm f/2.8 macro USM lens (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=155&modelid=7400), which was used for all but the bird, for £406. It's designed to fit Canon SLR cameras, not compacts.

And what did you use for the bird, which I forgot to say was deeply impressive, especially when compared with my ongoing series of out-of-focus ducks...

70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=150&modelid=11922). In this case at 270mm. Blackbirds do seem to be among the braver of birds, but this one let me get unusually close nonetheless.

I love the blackbird!
Is that one of the tiny irises in the glasshouse?

All of the above were outside. Most of the plants were in the winter garden, so presumably reasonably tough variants.
