I got asked for ID while buying wine in Sainsbury's last night. That's never happened before. (Eventually he let me have the wine anyway, my complete bogglement apparently being convincing.)

Snap. I also was carded while on honeymoon (in NYC) at the age of 30. The only ID I had on me was my university library card, which doesn't give my date of birth (but does give my title as Dr, which might have helped).

It turned out that an appropriate response to the question "are you 21?" was a look of confusion and "no, I'm 30" in my best Englishman-abroad English accent.
