Also a grasshopper I found on the bathroom window:

My first guess was a raisin, but it's too spherical. A peppercorn?

I thought that too, and also decided it was probably wrong, but didn't think of an alternative.

I like the grasshopper. Had one of my ceiling a couple of nights back too. The shadow made it look really monster-like (at a very small scale) when it walked.

It's depressing when you think "aha, I'm smug and clever, I know that's a peppercorn" and then everyone else has answered already in the comments, so no-one will know that I was clever, they will just think I have the ability to read already posted comments.

Maybe it's just that I'm small, but they always look like that :-)

Possibly a peppercorn (as everyone else says), but I think it could also be a seed from an evergreen tree of some kind. Leylandii?

Evergreen seed came to my mind, too.

Everyone's wrong. It's a JPEG image, and not a peppercorn at all. Could you grind the bits up and sprinkle it on your pizza?

I suppose you could sprinkle them on a picture of a pizza...

My first thought was that it was a seed of some kind; and my second thought was that it was the head of a used match.

Ho hum ...

You could have a sort of comparative series: "photos of small round dark objects"...

And you're halfway to re-inventing "Ask The Family", with Robert Robinson :-)

That's a peppercorn, but what's the thing it's lying on? If it were the size of a beachball then the surface would obviously be carpet, but it doesn't quite look like the texture of any fabric I can immediately think of - most of them have protruding hairs at that scale.

Did the diamond come out at all?

It's the cork from a pleasant bottle of Rioja. The diamond pictures are still awaiting the time and effort to get the best out of them; though my new lens might do a better job, actually, so I might bring it round some time.

Obviously a plain-clothes raisin about to infiltrate a gang of peppercorns.

That 'grasshopper' is an inflatable pool toy.
