My first guess was a raisin, but it's too spherical. A peppercorn?

I thought that too, and also decided it was probably wrong, but didn't think of an alternative.

I like the grasshopper. Had one of my ceiling a couple of nights back too. The shadow made it look really monster-like (at a very small scale) when it walked.
