I am gradually taking the interim measure of burninating to CD things on the desktop before lovely pjc50 constructs an extra HD for me to put things on. Most really important work things (ie dissertation notes) live both on my USB stick and on the allegedly safe Napier network drive, which always seems to fall over when I try to get into it and get stuff out, sigh. :/
I used to lose schoolwork thanks to the old chestnut of floppy disks in my pocket getting messed around by the school's magnetic fire doors. That was very distressing! :(
