I ticked them all. They all seemed to fit.

That survey can't tell a rationalization from a reason.

Maybe not, but on the other hand I don't write scientific papers pretending that I can.

(I haven't read the original research so maybe it's not as stupid as the newspaper coverage makes it out to be.)

That's exactly what I thought.

I'm somewhat concerned that [livejournal.com profile] pjc50 and I picked the same answers until he ticked 'make my partner feel powerful' and I didn't. I'm sure there's something to be read into that... ;)

Returning a favour seems a bit icky...I wonder why people ticked that. Last time I checked, I don't pay for chores to be done in House! via the gift of sexual favours...

The favour returned might itself have been sex? Couples' libidos are not always precisely in sync.

Oh, that's true. I guess I'm lucky that on the whole our libidos are in sync and we can keep up with each other! :)

I'd'a thunked you'd have worked it out from the IP address. :o) (As in, I'm happy to let you know my IP address, but this is not something I want to be associated with my name by idle googling...)

The most interesting thing I find about the survey and responses are the answers to the 'make up after a fight' question.

Ignoring the responses which were purely 'no-one wants to have sex with me, insensitive clod', 69% of respondents said they would have sex to make up after a fight (24 'yes' answers and 11 'no' answers).

I'd always considered sex to make up after a fight to be not the most healthy thing in the world (cue pondering about reinforcing bad habits (fight leads to sex)). (But then I think I've tended to mope after fights (which probably isn't terribly useful either)).

Thoughts?

Starting a row seems like a rather risky way to get sex...

Sadly, some couple dynamics incorporate regular rows as foreplay. Dysfunction city, but if that's what it takes for people to get along...

The talmud even says couples should not have sex with each other when they are angry with each other. That is only a moral reason not a health reason.
