I do plan to have a nice meal with my wife, but not tomorrow. She's in Venice with the boys and her mother while I cat and dog sit. And do house and garden and bike work.

I don't do Hallmark Days.

I'll be going to a Linux-users' meet which should be quite interesting because the pub-restaurant will be valentinified. One of the ALUGgers is taking his non-geek girlfriend along to have a meal there as well (I wonder what she'll think of spending the rest of the evening with a bunch of geeks).

One year a friend and I found a small shop which had a lot of witty and unusual cards and bought two dozen, which we sent to any single male we could think of, trying to match card to recipient.

I don't really mind St Valentine's Day, although I don't have the wossname to send cards speculatively, and am rarely in a position to do so non-speculatively. To be honest, working out how speculative a card would be is the main thing that bothers me, and that's just the usual mindreading problem.

He wanted to go out to a restaurant, but got less keen when I pointed out they would all be full and thus he would need to book somewhere in advance. So we are having takeout, I believe.

I've never had a partner before who was bothered about it, so it took my a while to get my head around the idea that Colin might, especially as a precedent was set our first year together, when he thought we weren't serious enough.

Anyway, we had our usual cinema trip on tuesday, and on friday we're going away for the weekend, all three of us, to stay with friends, and I bought him a ver special tree because it was on special offer.

One year I had a lovely card from a lovely anonymous gentleman who turned out to have a lovely name, too. That was nice.

Why Poland? The majority does not even speak their language and they have no money. It would be even the worst place finding a Jewish boy-friend who has at least living kosher.
