Also he wouldn't be the only Norman ruler to treat with the Muslims; the Norman lords of Sicily found having an excommunication-proof army quite handy when in conflict with the Pope.
I suppose the historical Angevin alliances with Spanish princes puts them only a hop away from Morocco, too.
None of this rules out the likelihood that Paris was just traducing his enemy however l-)
