I've bought a new camera. Does anyone want to buy my old one? Now sold.

It's a Canon EOS 350D. Specifications. In short: a very capable consumer digital SLR from a few years back.

From the original kit:

  • EOS 350D body
  • Body cap
  • EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II USM lens (almost identical to this one)
  • Canon NB-2LH battery
  • Charger
  • USB cable (but I recommend you use a card reader instead)
  • TV cable
  • Manual
  • Software CDs (you will probably want to downloaded updated versions from Canon)

Extras:

  • Equivalent 3rd party battery
  • 1GB Sandisk compact flash card
  • 256MB compact flash card
  • RS60-E2 cable remote
  • UV filter to fit lens above (if you believe in that sort of thing)

(The remote and extra battery are not compatible with my new camera, hence their inclusion here.)

Condition:

  • Bought mid 2005
  • About 20,000 shutter activations
  • Eyecup is getting loose
  • Firmware version is 1.0.3
  • Sensor has been cleaned with a blower once
  • Some dirt on mirror (?or focussing screen) - does not appear in photos!
  • Lens slightly noisy when zooming

If you're interested, make me an offer. Come round and try it out if unsure.

I also have a broken PowerShot SD40 and associated gubbins (charger, two batteries, some cabling) if anyone is interested in that (probably for free).

I'm interested, but I'm being threatened with redundancy. I may have the situation resolved within a week or so; if you still have it then, I'd like to have a go.

If you want to sell it to me more quickly, find me a job. (-8

Nice; I'm currently watching for the best deals (balancing saving twenty quid vs. instant gratification vs. freebies vs. with Canon outfit case vs. ...) and waiting for the dark clouds to lift on my mood so I don't end up being too grumpy/unemployed to enjoy taking delivery!

Could I trouble you to check something in the book of words for me? I've seen some reviews claiming it can act as a master to slaved, off-camera Speedlites -- others don't say anything about such a feature. Does the manual make any mention of it? The spec sheet isn't entirely clear...

The manual doesn't mention it and the system map at the back still includes at ST-E2. It'd be a lovely feature and it's a shame they've not included it.

Many thanks -- I suspected that'd be the case -- you'd have thought they'd at least want to catch Nikon (and, what, about half the rest of them?) up in that respect!

I may buy a 580EX at some point. My MT-24EX can be master but it's a bit inconvenient in that role!

I have to say I am very disillusioned with Canons flash offerings. I've got a 420EX and I can't get it into a manual mode!

Yeah, don't think it has one. I bought a 580EX as threatened above so now I have manual and a more convenient remote control capability than with the MT-24EX.

I'm almost certainly going to be changing to something that I can use manually. If you want a low end slave that will work with the Canon wireless TTL then let me know.

I think I have enough flashes to be going on with (580EX, 420EX, MT-24EX) but I'll bear that in mind l-)

I'm interested as well. Currently trying to find reliable lifetime data ...

Hard data seems difficult to come by.

Number of shutter cycles seems to be the most popular number to measure and someone's been collecting data here (http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/canon_eos350d.htm); if that's anything to go by then you have little to worry about. But the number of samples is small!

It's not the only moving or fragile part though; as I say the eyecup is a bit loose for instance.

I'm not interested in an extra 350 (oddly enough:), but if the main purchaser doesn't want the spare battery, I'd be willing to buy that separately. Also, what [livejournal.com profile] fivemack asked.

Enjoy it! I really notice the difference between my 300D and my 40D... :)

Blimey, yes, that's quite a jump.

I think the 50D's sensor is rather out-performing my 17-85mm, though need to do some testing in more favorable conditions to be sure of that. Not entirely surprising given the lens is fairly mid-range but a nuisance still.

(Put the 135mm on it and it's pin-sharp, so I'm comfortable I've not bought a duff camera!)
