I still say that you need a neutral not-rude comment and a clearly obviously rude comment so that you can decide whether “I thought you were pressing further up” is rude or not - some people think that everything sounds rude.
(To anyone else reading this, of course, it then turned out that we couldn't find a not-rude comment to compare it to!)
I think "Does this sound rude" is one of those questions like "if you asked the other guard what he'd say if..." or "Is this question annoying" or "are you awake" where the answer BECOMES "yes" :)
