I think it must be like the Y2K thing. Inbuilt fault so they make work to adjust the system to deal with the era *grin*..

I make it to 2030. Which gives me a ripe old age in comparison to some, although shooting me just after my birthday seems a bit mean.

I strongly suspect it's seeding a PRNG from your username, then creating a weighted POSIX time value.
