...I spent a bit over three days in a field in June, and basically did not suffer from hayfever at any point - a slightly sore palate in the mornings but that was it. Granted I was taking pills for it, but I do that anyway, and they don't by any means kill it completely. It only started up again once we were on the way home.

Go figure...

Perhaps there's something in the house or car you're allergic to? or something specific in the garden/environs at home that you didn't get in the field.
