Fun but also disturbing. I couldn't help wondering what impact it would have on someone from 1931 Berlin if it was sent back in time and shown to them: would they think the Nazis were overemphasized? The previous film I saw being a fairly gung-ho thriller I particularly appreciated the more subtle character development of this one...

The most compelling description I've found of the war from the perspective of a (mostly) apolitical German fighter of reasonable rank was Lone Wolf, a biography of Henke.

I've never seen Cabaret.
