I finally pointed my camera at Ian's train set with appropriate attachments.

This has something to do with ducks.

What's that, then?

Using the twin flash for portraits gives a rather strange effect.

The 100mm lens turns out to make quite a good indoor portrait lens without flash, though the camera's metering system doesn't really seem to believe in it.

I think the red thing is that really annoying bit out of your Lego set/Ikea furniture/kid's latest toy that you lose, and without which the whole thing won't hold together.

Those are very pretty (and occasionally slightly disturbing :)).

105mm used to be recommended for portraiture, iirc.
What's this twin flash setup? ISTR you want a full on one side and about a half from the other, to get some modelling. A bit of backlight is nice too.

My sensor isn't 35mm so traditional rules about focal lengths need scaling by 1.6. Twin flash (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=141&modelid=7282).

Ah, they're a bit close together for doing faces. Messing with the ratio between them would be better than nowt though. I used to have remote triggering stuff and have flashes on separate tripods about a fathom either side.

Yes. The particular oddity I had in mind was the dual reflections in the eye though.

Oh, and the train at the top used different amounts of light from each side, IIRC the rest of the flash pics here are full on.
