The parrot was quite a show-off.

Probably the ugliest thing in the zoo.

...though not without competition.

It was definitely a day for long focal lengths; I took everything with my 70-300, and Tom had a new even longer lens to put through its paces. I'd been feeling a bit like I'd not used the 70-300 enough to justify its price, after yesterday I don't feel like that any more...

Tom has put up his pictures too now.

Wonderful expression on the lioness! What's the second bird?

The gurning lioness is wonderful, and illustrates perfectly why tigers ROOL.

Those are all wonderful, but the Scarlet Macaw made me bounce with glee. Thank you!

The parrot demo, where that picture and the up-close-and-personal pics of the Harris Hawk came from, was a real laugh. Sitting at the back was the right move - not only did we get to stand up for better camera angles without having to worry about blocking anyone's view, but also we didn't get large pointy birds skimming our heads by an inch or so on a semi-regular basis.

Harris hawks rule. They're social birds of prey and they are *so* cool to handle. I got to play with one riefly on holiday with Ross a year or three ago :)

They're all wonderful, but the photo of the [livejournal.com profile] fivemack in his natural environment is just perfect!

The parrot, the falcon, the spoonbill (?). the giraffe... you are too damn good at this! They all remind me of people I know :)

Actually that's not quite accurate - they remind me of people. They're the sort of photos you could use for caption competitions and so on. A bit like this one (http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/2210/ca54gjpt1ro0.jpg) in fact. Though the Harris hawk makes me think of myself a bit, and the giraffe *really* does look like someone I know, I just can't put my finger on who :)
