The parrot was quite a show-off.

Probably the ugliest thing in the zoo.

...though not without competition.

It was definitely a day for long focal lengths; I took everything with my 70-300, and Tom had a new even longer lens to put through its paces. I'd been feeling a bit like I'd not used the 70-300 enough to justify its price, after yesterday I don't feel like that any more...

Tom has put up his pictures too now.

The parrot demo, where that picture and the up-close-and-personal pics of the Harris Hawk came from, was a real laugh. Sitting at the back was the right move - not only did we get to stand up for better camera angles without having to worry about blocking anyone's view, but also we didn't get large pointy birds skimming our heads by an inch or so on a semi-regular basis.

Harris hawks rule. They're social birds of prey and they are *so* cool to handle. I got to play with one riefly on holiday with Ross a year or three ago :)
