The problem with, "What do you want for Christmas," is that everyone asks you, and then they get you what you asked for, and and there's a bit of me that really misses the moment on Christmas morning of opening a present and having absolutely no idea what's inside, and discovering that what is inside is the best thing ever.

The last time that happened was a few years ago when I got given A Very Scary Solstice.

Everybody in my family supplies each other with longish wishlists to select from; so you don't know exactly what will be in any particular present and you don't know what subset you'll end up with. I happily take this diminution of surprise in exchange for not having shopping for everybody else be a long drawn out nightmare covering all of December. If I had to choose presents for other people I think I'd just send everybody cards with cheques in and sod off abroad for the season.

I have a vague recollection of filling this out last year and a guess my answers would be about the same *grin*

I don't care about Christmas. It has no meaning in Judaism. My parents and some other family members celebrate it a cultural festival as it was usual in Communist East Germany. They know I don't care anymore but always support me with clothing (even if I don't need) and money. Money I always need. Who I want is my brother coming by himself and not with my parents. I wanted him to come all the time. It was too stressful having the whole crowd. It was just a few months ago. I hope my brother will come alone at some point.

Christmas doesn't have religious any meaning to an atheist, either...

Christmas [...] has no meaning in Judaism

...But I'm a fervent celebrator of Bank Holidays. :o)

At least you can go to Limmud or do any other traveling. I can't do that. I am just hanging around at home and try to study.

Did anyone give any non-facetious answers to the last question last year?

Yes. No, I'm not saying who, or what they said...

I think I gave a slightly despairing answer. Sorry.
