Actually, Weetabix and Shredded Wheat are pretty close in calorific terms. And, since three of either is only about 60g, 200kcal, it's really not hard to eat three of either.
I know lots of people (without wheat allergy/intolerance problems) that can't handle shredded wheat because it gives them gutache, but who can eat weetabix, which is more or less mush once you put milk on it.
The advert is clearly a cunning ruse to get kids trying to eat more Shredded Wheat, more than an attempt to make people prefer Shredded Wheat to other cereals.
When I was eight or so I did eat three at a sitting to prove I could. My mum was very mock-impressed in a long-suffering way… until she noticed I'd eaten them dry and wasn't thirsty. Then she got a little worried.
That should have been the first warning sign that I have absolutely no thirst reflex. In fact, things bimbled along until I got a kidney stone at the age of nineteen and incredulously asked how someone was supposed to drink that much when my consultant advised me to consume at least three pints a day of fluids.
Do they still do the three Shredded Wheat adverts? I remember the campaign was torpedoed by a poster showing a bowl of three shredded wheat with the caption, "I bet he drinks Carling Black Label."

I'd always assumed "Weetabix" was the singular, so the plural was, presumably "Weetabices".
