Bastards. My mother's house has just been burgled as well. No doubt she'll make much more of a fuss about it than you or any sane, rational person would, but it's always going to be a shit thing to happen to anyone :-(
Bummer. Any theory that the two incidents are related? (Most burglars aren't really all that bright, as I understand it, and don't understand things like "don't return to the scene".)
Arse, and so soon after the last attempt. I hope it hasn't made you feel as horrible as it did last time. And that the insurers are still good about replacing things. Jewellry is a bugger though. *hug*
At least, knowing ewx, he'll have photos of the stolen items. /-8
And, hopefully, recent backups of the laptops, which will have had any sensitive data encrypted.
But being burgled still sucks. It happened to my family twice while I was a kid, and it did mildly traumatise me; fortunately it's not happened since — attributable in part to living in a quiet village in John Major's old constituency. The increased burglary risk is one of the things that scares me most about the prospect of moving back down towards Cambridge.
I don't think there was any sensitive data on the laptops at all unless you count SSH private keys, which of course can be revoked at the various targets. My laptop was backed up, N's wasn't but I don't think there was anything on it to care about - it was just used as a portable terminal.
by the way do you know who dernhelm in nz is? you responded to a comment of hers and he/she also has you friended but I cant equate it with a real life person or lj friend. And I'm only just checking my lj friends info after a long long time.
