Attempted break-in
Feb. 7th, 2009 05:32 pmWe had an attempted break-in some time in the last week. Naath found on Friday evening that the back door couldn't be opened and when the locksmith came today he said it was definitely the result of a break-in attempt; on investigation the bolt was bent. He made a temporary repair but the lock will need replacing. The police visited fairly promptly and took a statement.
Our house was broken into today. My laptop was stolen, along with LNR's camera and MP3 player and an old cellphone. Nothing else appears to be missing.
We've had a first visit from the police. SOCO should be visiting tomorrow. The window has been sorted. We've not called our insurers yet as they aren't open in the evenings and in any case we won't have a crime number until the police have done some more paperwork.
This seems like an excellent point at which to remind people to back up your data regularly. I've lost a bit but once my laptop is replaced I should be able to get back to the point I was at a week or so ago. (That's not really the main worry, in this case, but I don't propose to go into that in a public posting.)
